Press release, April 11; Michael McManus, DigiTimes.com [Wednesday 11 April 2007]

With BenQ planning to commercially launch mobile digital TV (MDTV) supporting 3G and 2.5G handsets in the Europe and Asia markets in 2008, the company has chosen to partner with silicon provider Siano Mobile Silicon, and utilize the company's SMS1010 multi-standard mobile TV receiver chip, according to a press release from Siano.

BenQ is also using a Siano solution for its participation in the DVB-H commercial trial currently undertaken in Taiwan. For the trial BenQ is using its P51 smartphones with DVB-H SDIO cards based on the Siano chip.

The DVB-H trial in Taiwan is carried out by a collection of companies that include Public Television Service Foundation (PTS), mobile operators Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) and Taiwan Mobile (TWM), Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), terminal makers BenQ and Motorola, and multimedia software provider CyberLink.
