Teardown on Apple TV

A group of analysts from Prudential Equity cracked open the Apple TV and revealed the vendors which supplied the IC parts for the 40Gbyte digital box.

In a MarketWatch report, the analysts shared that Intel Corp. is supplying the CPU, Broadcom Corp. is providing the Wi-Fi chipset, Nvidia Corp. is furnishing the graphics processor, and Marvell is contributing the HDD chip for the Apple TV.

Apple TV also has components from some IC suppliers for the iPod music player, which include Texas Instruments Inc., Samsung Electronics Co., Silicon Image, Cypress Semiconductor and Intersil Corp.

Success even after delay
After a slight delay in shipment, Apple started selling the Apple TV last month. The wireless STB is designed to show video downloaded from the iTunes store on the living-room television.

Some market firms, such as Wall Street, have varying sales outlook for the device. Prudential analysts expect that the Apple TV will achieve 800,000-unit sales, while PiperJaffray analysts forecast 2 million.
